It’s Time for a New Look

At times various game characters have had their designs changed or altered from their original presentation; this is common in any media including books and comic book characters especially. Most times, these changes tend to be very big and are met with differing opinions from fans. But other times characters have barely been changed since their original design. A prominent figure who’s followed this design of “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”, is Mario; other than the changes in sprite-work and just a more detailed look for new graphics, his mustachio design has stayed fairly consistent and barely changed at all. On the other hand, a more noticeable character redesign is Dante from the Devil May Cry series. Many fans were outraged by his more modern look, ditching his iconic white hair for a shaggier black style. But in essence, he was supposed to be the same; many do not believe so. Other times character redesign is more reasonable because- well; the character is simple a title. The greatest example may be Link or Megaman; both of which have various incarnations, with Link having a time line in which he is represented in that era. OoT Link is not the same Link as Twilight Temple Link; so it is excusable for them to have drastic changes. As for Megaman; he has different incarnations such as his appearance in Battle Network or in the original NES days as Rock. Either way; some designs stay in people hearts due to fond memories and interesting elements, or are shunned for not following the basic formula the original design is set as. However you may view them; they are the same character with a different skin.
